The Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) will host a hearing Sept. 1 on its proposed changes to the teacher preparation rules. PELSB will receive comments on these rules until Aug. 10. Comments can be submitted to Michelle Hersh Vaught.

PELBS released in February the fourth draft of proposal for teacher preparation, including:

  • Changing rules governing teacher preparation providers (often referred to as “units”), as outlined in Minnesota Rules, chapter 8705
  • Repealing parts 8705.0200, subparts 2, 7, and 9; 8705.0300; 8705.1000; 8705.1100, subparts 1, 3, 4, and 5; 8705.1200; 8705.2200, subpart 4; 8705.2300; and 8705.2400.

Next Steps

Rulemaking involves several steps that are required by state law. The steps exist to ensure the public and stakeholders have several opportunities to provide input and feedback about the proposed changes.

Once the final comment period closes, the proposed changes will be reviewed by an Administrative Law Judge as well as the Governor’s office.

PELSB will continue to provide updates on the status of this rulemaking on its webpage.
