Chairman Paul Marquart wasted no time in getting the House Education Finance Committee together and off the ground. They met Thursday in a ‘meet and greet’ session. Chairman Marquart asked the members to outline their priorities for education this session. Almost every members, from both sides of the aisle, stated they are here to work on closing the achievement gap and creating more equity and adequacy in the education funding system.

Marquart is going to hold them to their words and next Tuesday, his committee staff is going to summarize the members’ stated goals and he’s going to lead a committee discussion aimed at identifying a handful of consensus goals the committee will work towards this session. Marquart also asked members and the audience to bring forward ideas, programs and witnesses who can discuss strategies and interventions that improve student learning. He wants consensus and an investment where there’s a proven track record of success. If you have such a story please, let MREA know and we can connect you to the committee discussion.
