MREA Announces 2016 Board Vacancies

MREA is now accepting nominations for six seats on the MREA Board of Directors, effective Jan. 1, 2016. Only individuals from MREA full membership districts in the corresponding zone may apply to serve and represent school districts in rural Minnesota. Submit your nomination.*

Nominations must be submitted online and need to include a Statement of Interest that will accompany the ballot mailed to eligible voting members. The deadline for nominations is 5 pm, Friday, October 23.

MREA’s Board of Directors is comprised of 22 persons – 16 representative directors elected by the membership and 5 statewide directors appointed by the Board. The 22nd seat on the Board is filled only to seating the individual who holds the office of “Past-President.”

Each zone is represented by one school district administrator, one school district teacher, one school district board member, and one at-large member. The Board of Directors appoints two representatives of higher education, two representatives from service cooperatives, and one representative of education districts. There are typically 5 meetings a year in February/March, April, July, October and December, plus the Annual Conference in November. Meetings held during the legislative session are scheduled in St. Paul; remaining meetings are held around the state. Meetings are two days, generally starting late afternoon/evening and continuing until noon the second day.

Directors are reimbursed travel expenses, and MREA covers meals and lodging. Directors may also be eligible for per diems per board policy. Districts are reimbursed substitute pay for teacher representatives.

To apply for a Board vacancy, a candidate must represent a full (not introductory) member of MREA, must come from the zone in which the vacancy exists, and must agree to attend the Board meetings and the Annual Conference. View the zones and eligible districts. Submit your nomination.
