MREA announced today the 2017 Educators of Excellence for Greater Minnesota. Join us in recognizing the work and passion of these honorees:

    

  • North: Susan Akre, Teaching, Learning and Assessment Coordinator and Teacher on Special Assignment for Deer River Schools
  • North Central: Angela Hartman, Business Teacher and Academic Advisor, Grades 7-12, at Underwood High School
  • South: Melissa Klapperich, 6th Grade Social Studies and Reading Teacher in Cannon Falls Public Schools

“Each year we honor educators who are inspiring students to learn and achieve by positively impacting them, modeling leadership in their school and community and bringing about new and innovative practices in education,” said Fred Nolan, executive director of MREA and former teacher, principal and superintendent in Minnesota. “The MREA seeks to recognize, reward, and promote excellence in education that propels the students of Greater Minnesota towards a future of success.”

MREA will honor the 2017 honorees at its Annual Awards Banquet on Nov. 13 at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd. The awards banquet will be held in conjunction with MREA’s Annual Conference on Future Ready Students. Learn more and register.

The MREA Board of Directors reviewed nominations categorized by four main geographic zones in Minnesota and selected the 2017 Educators of Excellence based on their impact, innovation, leadership and collaboration. The 2017 awards are sponsored in partnership with Robert W. Baird & Co. Learn more about the award, the honorees and nominate an educator for 2018.

“Great ideas are being implemented by great teachers all across the state,” Nolan said. “This award allows us to highlight some of the innovation our teachers are bringing to their schools.”
