MREA Announces Conference Breakout Sessions

By July 22, 2016 No Comments

MREA announced today the breakout sessions for the 2016 Annual Conference, “Making Teaching Matter.” More than 30 sessions will feature experts from inside and outside the classroom, providing insight and ideas on everything from reimagining classrooms to teacher recruitment to modifying curriculum.

Making Teaching Matter also offers plenty of networking and development opportunities for a diverse audience of teachers, administrators, school board members and other education professionals.

Highlights of 30+ Breakout Sessions

Here are just three breakout sessions featured at this year’s conference Nov. 13-15 at Cragun’s Resort near Brainerd:

Creativity through Constraint: Projects that Enliven and Challenge

Join Opening Keynote Speaker Sarah Brown Wessling in a workshop on cultivating your strongest thinkers. Dive into projects where students are challenged to exercise their deeper learning. If you’re asking, “How do I get my students to see beyond the surface? How do I get them to think?” you’re part of a huge club of educators constantly trying to help students “get beyond.”

Changing the Culture in Your School
Get a better understanding of programs used in schools to successfully create student excitement for learning and to instill a career and college culture for all learners. Presenters from MREA member districts will discuss how they implemented the John Baylor Prep program and the success their students attained.

Post and Pray? Not Today
With an increase in retirements and a decrease in individuals entering the teaching profession, school districts are facing a significant shortage of teachers. Gone are the days of ‘Post and Pray’ recruitment efforts, and school administrators can no longer be passive in their approach. Learn how two cooperatives faced this reality by redefining their talent acquisition process. Hear about new recruitment, retention, and mentor/new staff induction strategies and how those looked different as they hired community experts.
