MREA Board Applications Due Oct. 19

Just over one week remains until applications are due for the 2017 MREA Board of Directors. Terms for three available seats on the 21-person board begin January 1, 2017. The application deadline is 5 pm, Wednesday, October 19.

Individuals interested in representing school districts across Greater Minnesota are encouraged to apply for these elected positions. Applications must be submitted online and need to include a written Statement of Interest indicating interest and qualifications in fulfilling director responsibilities. Apply here.

MEMBER ELECTIONS
MREA Member districts will vote in November and December for candidates in their respective zones. Each zone is represented by one school administrator, one teacher, one school board member, and one at-large member. The Board of Directors also appoints two representatives of higher education, two representatives from service cooperatives, and one representative of education districts. Review zones.

North Central Zone
At-Large Representative: 4-year term, 2017-2020

South Central Zone
Administrator Representative: 4-year term, 2017-2020

South Zone
School Board Representative: 4-year term, 2017-2020

BOARD MEETINGS
There will be five board meetings in 2017 plus the Annual Conference in November. January, March and April meetings are held in St. Paul; remaining meetings are held in Alexandria, Brainerd, and Detroit Lakes. Meetings are two days, generally starting late afternoon/evening and continuing until noon the second day. Learn more.

Directors are reimbursed travel expenses, and MREA covers meals and lodging. Directors may also be eligible for per diem per board policy. Districts are reimbursed substitute pay for teacher representatives.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to apply for a Board vacancy, a candidate must represent a full (non-introductory) member of MREA, must come from the zone in which the vacancy exists, and must agree to attend scheduled Board meetings and the Annual Conference. View eligible districts. Apply online.
