Legislature Offers Free College Tuition in Pilot Program

By December 19, 2015 No Comments

The Minnesota Legislature will provide up to  two years of free tuition and general fees at Minnesota two-year public colleges for students admitted to career tech programs in “high demand” fields.  MREA encourages schools to share this with their high school counselors and seniors.

This program is first-come, first serve and open to students from families earning up to $90,000 annually.  It’s a one-time deal.

Sen. LeRoy Stumpf proposed in 2015 free tuition at all two-year colleges.  His bill got whittled down to this pilot program aimed at getting students into the tech and other growing fields funded for the next two years.

The Office of Higher Learning did a webinar December 10 on this program. Learn more.
