Governor Walz Signs Two-Year State Budget Into Law

Almost a week after the MN Legislature convened for a one-day special session, Governor Walz signed the slate of legislation that was passed into law. The successful conclusion of this budget deal means a new two-year budget cycle begins on July 1. There is much speculation that a special session will be needed in the fall to absorb federal budget cuts that impact the state’s general fund. Read the official press release.

The Education bill was passed as part of this special session. The Education Policy and Appropriations Omnibus Bill protects the investments made in the 2023 and 2024 legislative sessions and funds education programs. The bill also makes targeted reductions that address long-term budget challenges. HF 5 or Chapter 10 has been signed into law by the Governor.
