The Minnesota Rural Education Association (MREA) bids farewell to Darrin Strosahl, who has resigned from his role as Executive Director, effective June 30, 2025. During his tenure, Darrin Strosahl made significant contributions to MREA’s mission and vision, advancing rural education across the state.

Under Strosahl’s leadership, MREA continued its advocacy efforts, strengthened partnerships, and enhanced its presence in legislative arenas, cementing its role as a pivotal voice for Greater Minnesota education. The Board of Directors and MREA staff express sincere gratitude to Darrin for his service and wishes him success in his future endeavors.

Following careful deliberation, the MREA Board has appointed Dr. Fred Nolan as the interim Executive Director, tasked with leading the organization through FY26. Dr. Nolan’s return to MREA heralds a familiar face to many members and partners, having previously served as Executive Director from 2010 to 2020. His tenure was marked by substantial growth and influential advocacy, solidifying MREA’s reputation as a beacon of rural education excellence.

Dr. Nolan brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to advancing the interests of rural schools and communities. He is eager to re-engage with MREA’s stakeholders, continuing to champion issues critical to Greater Minnesota education and ensuring that rural voices resonate loudly at the Capitol.

Moving forward, MREA remains steadfast in its mission to advocate, communicate, and celebrate Greater Minnesota education. The organization reaffirms its commitment to fostering collaborative efforts, empowering educators, and addressing the unique challenges and opportunities faced by rural schools.
