MREA invites school district, associate and individual members to its 2018 Annual Meeting in conjunction with the 2018 Annual Conference, Engaging Students Now. Voting on the 2019 Legislative Platform, outlining issues and actions, is among the key actions that members will take at the meeting.

The MREA Board of Directors has identified key issues and approved this platform as the focus for the 2019 Legislative Session.

  • Funding Student Needs
  • Jump Start to School Readiness
  • Teacher Crisis
  • Special Education
  • Career and College Readiness Flexibility
  • School Safety, Mental Health
  • Strengthening Rural Communities

The platform development process begins in July of each year as the MREA Board of Directors identify key issues to consider for the coming legislative session. MREA staff gathers input from school district members across the state at area meetings in the fall.

The Board then approves a recommended platform in October for MREA membership to vote on. Upon membership approval at the Annual Business Meeting, MREA will conduct further research and analyze data to develop workable solutions.

Board Candidates

Members at the Annual Meeting will also hear from candidates running for election to the 2019 Board of Directors. There are 10 individuals vying for 4 open spots on the Board of Directors. Each of MREA’s four membership zones will have one open position for terms effective Jan. 1, 2019.
