MREA recognized innovative programs and leaders serving Greater Minnesota with  its annual Profile of Excellence Awards and Distinguished Service Awards.

MREA honored St. James Public Schools and Windom Area Public Schools with Profile of Excellence Exemplary Program Awards. Pine River-Backus Public Schools and Pipestone Area Schools received Honorable Mentions. The Profile of Excellence Awards recognize compelling practices at any level of education from early childhood through elementary, high school, post-secondary or adult education. Learn more about their programs.

Rep. Kathy Brynaert and Sen. Kevin Dahle received 2013 Distinguished Service Awards. MREA presented these legislators with the award for demonstrating legislative leadership at its best. They addressed a significant state-wide problem, without a direct self-interest, and to assemble and hold together a coalition of legislators to pass significant legislation that changes and improves the direction and outcomes of education for Minnesota. Learn more about the recipients’ service for Greater Minnesota schools.

MREA recognized the honorees at the Annual Awards Banquet on Nov. 18 at Cragun’s on the Lake in Brainerd. View a photo gallery of the Awards Banquet.

Entries are judged by a panel of the Board of Directors. All Profile of Excellence nominations are evaluated based on benefits to student, ease of adaptability, innovation and collaboration.
